We Are More Alike Than We Are Different

Jan 15, 2022

A note from the writer: I wrote this in the summer of 2021. Every word holds true to this day and as I imagine, long after publication. SELF-ESTEEMED is a self-paced 10 module course you can purchase by clicking here.

In the short time since ✨SELF-ESTEEMED✨has launched, I’ve had the honor to meet with so many applicants applying for the course; All sharing their stories & seeking out actual change. Change of behavior, of thought patterns, of choice making, and of valued-engagement with life.

I have always known to be true that so many of us are similar more than we are different and this experience only reaffirms that notion. We are all SO much more alike than we are different. We often think we’re unique, that our stories are so outlandish and different from the rest of society; While we are unique in our individuality and what we offer the world, it is our problems that are not so unique.

The trials and tribulations most every human suffers from are similar in characteristic, birth place, and underpinning (at least in some form or another). If you’re suffering, feeling unworthy of love and belonging, feeling broken, feeling so unsure of yourself and frustrated- you’re not alone in that experience.

Zoom call after zoom call, I hear stories of feeling broken, fearing judgement, a desire to belong and the yearning for connection. I hear stories of being at war with one’s self, frustration with patterns proving difficult to break, and most heartbreaking- a lack of self-acceptance and self-compassion.

Yet, all stories also come with hope. An individual wouldn’t be on the call if they didn’t know that change was possible, that they are indeed capable and worthy of living a life of satisfaction and well-being.

Of thoroughly enjoying their own being

Of trusting themselves as opposed to always needing reassurance

Of producing great work born of their intrinsic creativity, rather than procrastinating and shaming themselves as a result

Of communicating and setting boundaries without doubting themselves.

I hear hope for all of these things albeit, indirectly. No one comes to me saying “I’m hopeful I can change” but, it is in their attempt to even reach out to me that signals a sense of hope and possibility.

If I kept my eyes closed during these calls, I would have no idea it was a different person every time given the parallels from one persons story to the next.

…the course has yet to even begin and I’m already eager for its end only to watch the fruits of your labor throughout this course bring to light all you never realized you are capable of.
